Carshalton Artists community group started over six years ago, with seven artistic friends meeting in a local pub for a drink. These impromptu meetings grew with more and more local artists, gallery and craft shop owners wanting to attend. Carshalton Artists is now a seventy strong group of local artists and businesses. We aim to celebrate and help local creatives by giving them the opportunity to network with other creatives and businesses. This includes bi monthly 'arty drinks' meetings, active Facebook, Instagram and Twitter groups, the annual Carshalton Artists Open Studios event in June and July and ad hoc craft fairs.
The Carshalton Artists team has a huge amount of experience in creating diverse and supportive networks and events that link and help their communities. They live and work in Carshalton and are passionate about helping artists and organisations to fulfil their creative potentials.
Husband and wife team, Helena and Neal Vaughan founded the group, joining up with local artists John Stillman and Abel Kesteven and local businessman Stuart James to start the popular 'arty drinks' networking meetings. These informal meetings grew and soon the 'Open Studios event was also founded by Helena, Neal and Abel. The trio have been the driving force behind this now annual event with fellow co-ordinators and inspiration for the project Kathryn and Al Sherriff and Adrienne Roberts.
Helena Vaughan studied fine art, graphics and animation to degree level before working in the media industry for ten years. She now teaches Art and Design part time as well as producing and selling her work. She also runs craft market stalls and workshops alongside school visits and professional practice talks.
Neal Vaughan has been working within the creative industries for over 25 years. Starting in broadcast media, then progressing onto visual arts as an artist, workshop leader, teacher and project manager/events organiser. Exhibitions have included individual and group shows and I have be selected to exhibit with a number of high profile societies including the Royal Society of British Artists, The Chelsea Arts Society, Croydon Arts Society, and the United Society of Artists.
