Below are all CAOS locations , workshops and events run in 2017. See for yourself the wonderfully diverse artistic expression and inclusive workshops that were offered over two weekends at the end of july and beginning of July in 2017 

All the locations are easy to find, within walking distances of each other.  Check the map below and at the bottom of the page all the addresses.  Maps can also be picked up at all artists locations and businesses on the trail.  Outside each location look for the sign of CAOS!. The Goodfellows logo with purple OPEN STUDIO sign certainly stands out!

The Corner Gallery  map location 14 

The Corner Gallery, Carshalton Beeches, is well known for its exciting, original exhibtions and workshops for families, CAOSart17 will be no different. Join in the carnival atmosphere at The Corner Gallery for both weekends. The Corner Gallery program of events is listed below:

FREE Workshops: 24/25th June 1st/2nd July 10am-5pm

Squirrels Community Scrap Scheme will conduct FREE workshops across both weekends. Participants will be guided into making exciting pieces of original artwork from recycled materials.

GAVIN MUNDY ART 1st July 10am-5pm:

Gavin Mundy will be creating live portraits, on site on July 1st from 10am to 5pm. There will be a small fee (depending on the size of the portrait.

ARTISTS ON THE LAWN: 24/25th June 1st July 10am-5pm

There will be a program of artists, each selling their work at affordable prices from the Corner Gallery gazebo on the lawn outside of the gallery.  Check the artists page to see who is exhibiting when.


There will be a special exhibition of work from Sutton Mental Health Foundation, a local charity, that will be a perfect way to round off the festival at the Corner Gallery.

Fancy making an elephant?


This is a kids craft in Claire Chandler's garden for all 4 days (subject to supplies) using empty milk cartons and coloured paper, to help everyone remember the weekend.

Calladoodles map location D

Calladoodles pride themselves in connecting to the community, local businesses and the arts in Carshalton, ever since opening six years ago. Mother and daughter team Liz and Clare started the business and since then, the team has grown to a fantastic all-girl staff: Liz, Clare, Victoria, Kate, Rebecca, Emma and Caitlin.

During CAOS many of the artists will be displaying beautiful gifts, cards and homeware inside the shop and an amazing accompanying window display. They will be open Saturdays only 10am-5pm


Dottys Teahouse map location E 

FREE Workshops:

Dottys Teahouse will be serving cake and tea as usual, but kids and families will be able to drop in and make bunting, to be displayed throughout the event.

Oaks Park Studios map location 17 

ON THE 25th June only. Kate Wilson in Simon Burder's studio will be inviting the public to experience first hand printing using stone.  An ever popular part of Simon's studio experience will be the collaborative print he invites the public to make. The results will be unveiled the week after. Simons studio will be open on all days, 24/25th June 1st/2nd July 11am-5pm.

CAOSart17 places to eat 

CAOSart17 needs fuel! On the trail there are many Cafe's, bars and restaurants, but the two below are perfectly located and come highly recommended by the artists.

Dottys Teahouse map location E 

Dottys Teahouse will be open serving homemade cakes, a huge range of teas and lots of smiles as usual.  As suggested above kids and families will be able to drop in and make bunting, to be displayed throughout the event.

Stennings Bakery map location, Carshalton Beaches 

Stennings will open open their doors on Saturdays but also Sundays, something they never do! Stennings will be serving their usual range of amazing homemade cakes, pastries and sandwiches.

Open Saturdays 9am-3pm and Sundays 10am-3pm

Saregama Carshalton Beaches 

If the evening is drawing in and you fancy a meal, why not try Saregama in Carshalton Beaches.


Tuesday to Thursday, and Sundays ~ 12pm to 2.30pm and 5.30pm to 11pm

Friday and Saturday ~ 12pm to 2.30pm and 5.30pm to 11.30pm

Carshalton is located in South London with links to London through rail, bus and road.



A232 from Sutton or Croydon. A237 from Mitcham or Coulsdon. You can also take A217 from Reigate and follow signs to Sutton or Banstead. There is plenty of parking, listed on the map in Carshalton High Street. 



407 from Sutton or Croydon 127 from Mitcham or Purley 157 from Morden or Crystal Palace. 463 from Coulsdon.


Direct trains from London Victoria to Carshalton (25mins) or Carshalton Beeches (45mins) Trains also run from Epsom, Dorking, Horsham and West Croydon

Carshalton is an area rich in its heritage, culture and history. All can be explored during your CAOS trails.

Honeywood Museum map location 4 

Honeywood Museum will host an exhibition of art from the archives.  The extensive Sutton Heritage, Libraries and Arts archive will be plundered to show off all the best artists and art connected to Carshalton.  

Honeywood is free and has a great cafe in an amazing picturesque location.

CAOSart17 landmarks

Carshalton is known for its Houses, its location on the river Wandle and its parks.  Some of those landmarks are marked on the map are are listed below.

Carshalton Water Tower map location A 

The water tower is an early 18th century building that contained a water-powered pump. This supplied water to Carshalton House and its fountains. The building itself evidence of this, a splendid early 18th century cold bath lined with Delft tiles and the obligatory stone staircase climb to the top of the tower with amazing views over Carshalton. 


The tower is open to visit from 7 April to 30 September on Sunday afternoons from 2.30pm to 5pm

Admission: adults £1, children 25p


All Saints Church map location C 

All Saints is an Anglican Parish Church for central Carshalton. It is particularly known for worship and events; including symphony orchestras, one of which will be on the opening night of CAOS on the 24th June (details are here) 


The historic building is placed in a beautiful setting, and has an outstanding interior.

Ecology Centre map location B 

Sutton Ecology Centre is the resource for environmental education in the borough.

The grounds are an excellent place for a walk with kids and families. You can now discover the grounds by following the 
Ecology Centre Trail. This includes the Nature, Heritage and Sensory aspects of the grounds and about the local wildlife habitats, composting and wildlife gardening. The Centre runs educational visits for schools as well as events for adults, families and children, birthday parties, volunteer days and much more.

You can also pick a leaflet from the dispenser outside The Old Rectory, Festival Walk.


Opening hours:

The grounds are open to the public from 9am until sunset, Monday through Sunday, all year round.

 special offer from 'free art drop' artist Doug Shaw, search the trail for hidden art! 

Doug Shaw, the famous free art drop artist will be doing not one CAOS free art drop, but 15! His new artwork 'Flash of Blue' (which represents the Wandle kingfishers) had a run of 25 made and he will be hand finishing ten of these and making them available in his open studio at location 12. However devious Doug has placed the remaining 15 signed, numbered prints at locations around our art trails. Find them and they are yours, FOR FREE!

These trials have been put together with you in mind, they are all within easy walking distances and include heritage and local landmarks. Click on the artist or location to find out more about them or detailed location, opening and access arrangements.

Trail 1 Carshalton North and Central

You could start by parking in Carshalton High Street and take the short medium pace 10min picturesque walk through Grove Park, following the River Wandle to Mill Lane and River Gardens for the Vaughan's. Or park closer and drive back into town.  When you turn right out of the Vaughans, walk straight and follow Mill Lane, crossing over the road by the Sun Pub to visit Jackie Smith and take a left to visit Peter Lawson just over the road.  You could take in the historic landmark Carshalton Water Tower (only open Sundays) a little further down the road. This will bring you back towards Honeywood Museum via Festival Walk and the amazing historic collection of the boroughs artwork, exclusively curated especially for CAOS. At Honeywood you could rest and have a coffee, sandwich, something hot or an Ice cream.  Here you can also buy cards from some of the artists. Have you found any of Doug Shaw's free art drops yet? They are hidden in some of the locations!

Trail 2 Carshalton Central

Start by parking in Carshalton High Street and visiting Honeywood Museums and its historic art collection, exclusively curated especially for CAOS. While there you could wonder around Carshalton's Ecology Centre, a great location for families with children. Then take the short 5min walk through Festival Walk, turning left and then right to Abel Kesteven (just beyond the Windsor Pub towards Sutton). After Abel, left and just up Carshalton Road opposite the petrol garage in Alma Road is Jill Iliffe. Also on Alma Road is ceramic heaven! in Kathryn Sherriff's stunning studio crammed with three amazing ceramic artists.

On the walk back to Carshalton go via Wallace Crescent and Brenda Pennington. The walk back to the high Street takes you past the historic All Saints Church and then onto Calladoodles, the home of CAOS artists, where you can buy prints and post cards of many of their works. Just a couple of shops down is the newly re-launched Mine Gallery, with the work of Julian Heath. Finally, at the end of the pretty High Street is Dotty's Teahouse, where you can sample some stunning cake and children can participate in a free workshop making bunting. Trail 3 Carshalton Beeches

Start with parking on Stanley Park Road for John Stillman and then Claire Chandler, who has a house bursting at the seams with talent including Kate Marsden and Marie Ratnam. Also, at Claires, you can take part in a free drop in workshop, making Elephants out of recycled materials. Then take the short walk medium pace 10min walk to Doug Shaw, the free drop artist in the Carshalton area (have you still not found one yet?), to then loop back to Jo Sharpe before walking down to the artists, workshops and carnival atmosphere at the Corner Gallery. The Corner Gallery will host Squirrels Community Scrap Scheme for all the festival dates, with free workshops for children and families. Also, on July 1st, Gavin Mundy will be producing live portraits. You can then finish off at cartoonist Penny Haynes house in Blakehall Road and maybe grab a rest in Stennings Bakery opposite the Coner Gallery. Trail 4 Carshalton South and Oaks Park

Drive to Adrienne Roberts (or medium pace 15min walk from the Corner Gallery) then drive towards Oaks Park turning in via Croydon Lane entrance at the top (or a medium pace 20min walk from the Corner Gallery). Here . there is a lovely cafe and an amazing selection of different artists in the Oaks Park Studios complex.

While in Oaks Park check out the stunning views over the South of London. Opposite are . the Lavender Fields coming into bloom.
