About the Event

In this workshop, Kate will teach you how to prepare your fabrics and stitch them together to make a traditional hexagon quilt top. You will come away with a small pieced section of patchwork which you can use for a craft project or enlarge to make a full size quilt. English Paper Piecing is a slow hand sewing technique, which can be tricky to master, and the creation of a full quilt is often a labour of love. However by the end of the class you may find you’re raring to get started on that new family heirloom quilt!

No previous patchwork or quilting experience is necessary, however as this is an online class, you will need to be able to thread a needle and complete very basic hand stitches without assistance. Templates will be sent to you in advance, and you will need to print these (so must have access to a printer), and also have the following to hand close to your computer or the device you will be joining the workshop from:

Iron and ironing board Fabric – please press before we start Printed templates – please choose a size of hexagon in advance, and cut out at least 3 of them Scissors (both for paper and fabric if you have them) Needle and thread.

During the workshop Kate will demonstrate how to prepare the hexagons and stitch the patchwork pieces together. You will be able to work along at your own pace and ask questions. Immediately after the workshop, Kate will be available for a further hour to answer any additional queries you may have and will send a handout to all attendees.

Your tutor Kate is a textile designer and illustrator based in South London. Kate's work is inspired by the city around her as well as her travels, and her style leans towards that of the 1950s and 60s. Kate's designs feature on fabrics, home furnishings, stationery and accessories. She produces art prints, works to commission, and loves teaching workshops and sharing her passion for fabric!

PLEASE NOTE THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ADULTS ONLY.
